It's been a while since I posted an update on Osiron. It's really come a long way, and is starting to look almost like a finished product. Here's a link to the newest version:

Osiron Beta

The most prominent new features:
-A completely new look
-The game keeps track of your best time and fewest moves for each layout in the Dusk to Dawn game
-A completely re-designed layout menu, which now displays the board name, as well as your best time and fewest moves
-Each game has it's own menu, with buttons to play the game, view instructions, change settings, and go back to the main menu
-A settings screen which allows you to mute the music/audio, and change the backround, board and peice images
-Many bug fixes, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work!

I have three main features left that I'm going to add:
1. A redesign of the main menu
2. Highscore tables
3. A user profile system, so that multiple people can have their high scores saved on a single computer

I've been doing a lot of work on Osiron, so here's an update.

The biggest change is that Osiron's Prism has been added. Osiron's Prism is a Rubik's Cube-like single-player puzzle. The goal is to arrange all of the pieces with the same color next to each other in a triangle shape, with each triangle pointing towards the middle, so that it looks like a color wheel. In case this doesn't make sense (which I'm sure it doesn't), here's an image of what the board should look like when it's completed. Note that it does not matter which color is where. Movement of the pieces is the same as in Osiron's Dusk to Dawn.

Other changes/updates:

1. You can now select which board layout you want to use for Osiron Classic and Osiron's Dusk to Dawn.
2. On Osiron Classic, the pieces don't raise as high so that they do not cover each other up as much.
3. On Osiron's Dusk to Dawn and Osiron's Prism, you now click the center of a circle and then click and drag the circle to spin it, rather than moving the mouse side-to-side.
4. There has been a "goal" image added to Osiron's Dusk to Dawn to show you what the board should look like when you are done.
5. Music and a couple of sound effects have been added.
6. Menu transitions have been added.

I've uploaded a playable prototype of my current project called Osiron, which can be found here.

There are three game modes (only 2 are playable in this prototype):

Osiron Classic - The original 2-player Osiron game. Rules can be found here. On your turn, click one of your pieces to select it, then click one of your opponents pieces to swap them.

Osiron's Dusk to Dawn - A single player puzzle-type game, with a similar feel to a Rubik's Cube. The goal is to create the inverse of the design's color scheme in as few moves as possible. The end gameboard result should find all original dark playing pieces now occupied by light colored ones, and all original light playing pieces now occupied by dark colored ones. Click the center of a circle to select it, move the mouse left and right to rotate it, and click to lock the circle in position.

Osiron's Prism - Not yet available.

I've been working on this for less than a week, so it's still a major work-in-progress, and there's still a lot more work to be done on it. The final version will feature all three game modes, many different board layouts, selectable boards and pieces, and more. I'm very happy so say that I've just been selected as the developer for a flash version of an abstract strategy game called Osiron. =) The rules of the game can be found here:

Osiron Game Rules

"Osiron is an abstract strategy game for two players, twelve years of age and up. It is based upon the Flower of Life, an ancient geometrical figure of equally spaced, interlocked circles. The earliest example of this sacred symbol can be found at Osirion, the Temple of Osiris in Egypt, dating back thousands of years. Throughout history, philosophers, artists, and architects have studied the Flower of Life for its perfect form, proportion, and harmony. It is considered by many to be a symbol of sacred geometry, said to contain ancient, religious value depicting the fundamental forms of the universe. It is a visual expression of the connections life weaves through all of us. We hope the game Osiron will be equally meaningful through its unique, challenging, and intricate gameplay."

In addition to the standard two-player game, there is also a good chance of there being a single-player puzzle-type mode, which should be interesting. The creator of the game is an artist, and he makes earthenware sets of the game. I've never actually played, but I thinks it's an intriguing concept, and I'm looking forward to bringing this game to completion. =)
